Hosting the 4th Of July Bash

Jul 3, 2019

Are you celebrating in style this 4th of July? If you’re all about the fireworks, head to Navy Pier for the spectacular Aon Summer Fireworks show. Over 100,000 people attended the extravaganza last year—so prepare for traffic and herds of red, white, and blue.

If crowds aren’t your style, host an Independence Day bash from the comfort of your Overstreet Home. We’ve come up with festive, flag-centric ideas for inspiration!

Rustic Americana Decor

Natural raw wood and burlap add a rustic twist to the classic stars and stripes motif. From pallet-made flags to burlap bows, it’s a style that salutes the countrified history of America. If you enjoy DIY projects, many of these farm-style decorations are easy to create.

The colors of Ol’ Glory are a must-have for your July 4th bash. Vintage bunting and banners on table edges, kitchen islands, and banisters are a great way to display the flag. And we can’t move on without mentioning these cute-as-a-button mini American flag toothpicks.

Patriotic Playlist

What good is a party without music? We recommend planning your music playlist in advance. Pick some of the most popular patriotic songs and mix them in with your general party music.

There are plenty of classic rock and country artists who’ve showcased America in their tunes. From “American Woman” to “America The Beautiful,” there are tons of genres to choose from. And don’t forget to salute our soldiers by including the Armed Forces Melody!

Traditional Homespun BBQ

Let’s face it, most people go to parties for more than just the social aspect. Good food and cold beverages are expected at an idyllic July 4th gathering.

Make the work easier on yourself by calling this get-together a potluck. Delegate a few specific food items to make sure you have the classic menu—complete with corn-on-the-cob, hot dogs, and potato salad.

Top the whole event off with themed drinks. Blueberry lemonade and watermelon sangria will bring the color pallette right into your cocktails!

Entertainment For The Kids

Kiddos at the party? Not a problem! Overstreet homes have open floor plans that are great for high-energy entertaining. But nobody wants spilled drinks or other accidents…

Designate a kids room with an assortment of board games and coloring books. Parents and kids will be tickled to find you’ve prepared a few activities ahead of time for the little ones.

The highlight of the night will be when each child gets a packet of sparklers to enjoy outside. Make sure you have plenty of sparklers on hand so nobody’s left out!

Berry-Infused Dessert Bar

The cherry on top is…well, the cherry on top! Incorporate cherries, blueberries and apples into your dessert recipes or offer them a la carte. Let guests choose from a whole spread of seasonal fruits and fresh whipped cream for dessert.

Good luck partying like a patriot this July! We hope these ideas will help you successfully celebrate America’s birthday in your Overstreet Builders community.
