Building a brand new home is an exciting time! It feels good knowing that you'll be living in a home you love -- one that's perfectly designed for your needs and preferences.
If you're considering a home with Overstreet Builders, you may have some questions about the homebuilding process. We like to be as transparent as possible, so here's a look at how long it takes to build a home in Chicago's suburb of Elgin, IL.
Week 1: Contract Signing
In week one, Overstreet representatives will meet with you to go over the contract and discuss your home design. Throughout this step, we'll discuss initial options for floor plans and styles. We’ll also work on designing the home's footprint based on budget requirements and structural options.
By the end of week 3, the baseline of your home plan will be mapped out.
Week 4: Structural Sign Off
Once we've defined the footprint of your home, we'll sign off on the home's structural design. A structural design is crucial for homebuilding, ensuring that the home has a sturdy foundation and is built to last.
At this point in the process, we can apply for permits and get approval to break ground.
Week 5-10: Pre-Construction Phase
This phase is all about making home selections. Your custom home’s design is now complete, so this phase will involve choosing home finishes, appliances and more. It's also your opportunity to visit showrooms to see samples in person.
We'll take into account all of your goals and desires during this time, whether it's the interior layout or the home colors. Finalizing the blueprint at this stage ensures that we have an accurate home design to follow, inside and out.
In week 10, we'll get your final approval and collect signatures on all the details.
Week 12: Construction Begins
This is when the real excitement happens! After you've signed off on the home plans, it's time to start building.
The construction time frame varies slightly depending on home design, location, and weather constraints, but most homes are built within six months.
We'll keep you updated throughout the process so that any questions will be answered promptly and you stay in the loop.
10 Months: Move In!
After construction is complete, you're ready to grab the keys and move into your new home! Our team will walk you through the house to inspect everything. We’ll show you all the features and how to use appliances and home systems.
It's a long awaited day, but it is so rewarding to take your first steps into the home of your dreams!
